Frequently asked questions

  • When can I start a class?
    • You can start a buggymoves class once you have received the ‘all-clear’ from your doctor or health team after giving birth. We would recommend starting classes at least 10 weeks after giving birth (or 12 weeks for a caesarian delivery). The general age range for babies is 10 weeks to 2 years (or as long as your baby will be content riding in a buggy for an hour!)

Mums on the run classes are designed for mums who are at least 9 months post-birth.

The registration process for buggymoves and mums on the run includes a confidential Health Questionnaire that asks a few questions about your general health, any previous exercise history as well as your goals and aims of taking part in the class. That way, I can ensure that the classes are suitable for you and I can get a better understanding of what you hope to get from the class.

  • What will I wear?!
    • Loose comfortable clothing, a good sports bra (or two if you are breastfeeding!) and a pair of cushioned and supportive trainers.

In the spring months and summer months, we’d suggest you bring sun cream and a sunhat (for both baby and you if you’re attending the buggymoves classes). In the autumn months, a waterproof jacket and hat for yourself. And for the buggymoves classes, a rain cover for your buggy and a cosy blanket to keep your little one warm while we work out.

  • Do I need to bring anything else?
    • We strongly recommend bringing a drink of water for both you and baby and a waterproof mat for exercising on the grass. (A yoga mat, camping mat or waterproof picnic blanket are all ideal.) We hold a small supply of Warrior yoga mats that can be purchased for £13. You may wish to bring some snacks and toys to keep your little one entertained.

For the mum on the run classes, your most important pieces of kit are a cushioned and supportive pair of running shoes, well fitted socks and a bottle of water.

  • How do I book?
    • To book your place, please use the email form on the ‘Contact’ page or email me on info@buggymovesfitness.co.uk or of course call me on 01620 861193 or 07900 247 490. You will need to fill in a Health Questionnaire before you come along so I can ensure that the classes are suitable for you and I can get a better understanding of what you hope to get from the class.

  • What if it rains?
    • Classes still take place where showers are forecase. A waterproof jacket and a buggy rain cover are recommended. I wouldn’t expect you or your baby to come out in really adverse weather conditions. In this event, a class may need to be cancelled through a notification on the website, as well as a text to your phone within an hour of the class. You will then receive a credit for an additional class to use at another time.

  • Do I need a special buggy?
    • No. As long as your usual buggy is well padded and comfortable for your baby and the handles are at the right height for you it will be fine. The majority of all classes will take place on paved/tarmac paths within the parks, so your buggy doesn’t need to be the ‘off-road’ variety.

  • What do the babies do while we’re exercising?
    • A lot of the babies fall asleep with the movement during the buggymoves classes whilst the older ones may find watching mum working out is great entertainment!

  • What if my baby cries?
    • Absolutely no problem, we’re all in the same boat. The ethos of the class is to exercise in a fun and relaxed way, so if baby wants to exercise their lungs and join in, no problem. It’s important that they enjoy the experience, so please feel free to stop and attend to your baby at any time. We’ll go at a pace so that you can always catch up with the class again when you and your little one are ready.

  • What if I need to feed my baby?
    • It’s best to feed your baby an hour before the class, that way you’ll be more comfortable if you’re breastfeeding and your little one will have a lovely full tummy and might even snooze off while you’re on the move. There is no problem about feeding at any time during the class. The class will stay in the park so should normally be in your line of sight. You can just catch up when you’re ready.

  • Costs, times and locations
    • Costs:

      - Buggymoves and Buggymoves +: Introductory class is £7. A 9-week block thereafter is £63.

      - Mums on the run: A course of 10 classes is £55 (and includes a free water bottle for running)

      - Post Natal Personal Training/small group sessions: £40 per hour session.

Block booking payment is required prior to attending the classes. Running a course of classes allows me to progress the class week-by-week so that you get the most out of it. I do ask that you arrive 5 minutes before each class so that we can start and finish on time.

Times and locations: For an up-to-date timetable please see the separate ‘Times and Locations’ page.

  • What if I can’t make it one week?
    • If you’re not able to make a class please let us know not to expect you. We’ll do our very best to accommodate you in one of the other buggymoves fitness classes taking place that week instead.

  • A sociable way to get fit
    • The classes are a great way to get your body back in shape whilst meeting other mums with whom you can share parenting stories and tips and advice. A picnic in the park afterwards or a visit to the local coffee shop is a great way to finish off the class. The Strings Café in North Berwick, the Garden Path Café in Lauderdale Park, Dunbar and Kesley’s in Haddington are all baby friendly places to try.

There is an opportunity for a coffee, chat (and feed!) in the hall after the winter indoor classes.

  • What if I've never jogged or run before?
    • The mums on the run class is designed for first-time runners or those that would like to ease themselves back into running. The first few classes will involve alternating between walking and jogging to help build up fitness levels before progressing to non-stop running.

However, if you’re a completely new runner or have not been active in months we’d recommend doing a bit of extra walking before starting the mums on the run course. Try and include some 20 minute walks into your weekly routine to get your muscles and joints well prepared.
